Impact of climate change on the chemical composition of medicinal plants: between therapeutic valorization and toxicity risks
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The ongoing interactions between biological systems and the environment have been essential for the adaptation of life on Earth. These processes are now under significant pressure due to climate change, which requires our immediate attention. This Special Issue focuses on the impact of climate change on the chemical composition of medicinal plants, emphasizing both therapeutic valorization and toxicity risks.
This interdisciplinary field draws on principles from biology, chemistry, environmental science, and resource management, aiming to address the challenges posed by climate change on medicinal plant resources. As climate conditions continue to change, understanding how these plants adapt biochemically is decisive for ensuring their continued use in medicine and other therapeutic applications.
The topics addressed in this Special Issue will include, but are not limited to:
· Climate-induced changes in the chemical composition of medicinal plants
· Bioactive compounds and their therapeutic potential under varying climatic conditions
· Risks of toxicity in medicinal plants due to climate stress
· Mechanisms of biochemical adaptation in plants facing climate change
· Nature-based solutions for conserving medicinal plant biodiversity
· Bibliometric studies related to climate change and its impact on plants
· Interdisciplinary approaches to understanding the impact of climate change on plant health and sustainability
This Special Issue aims to highlight the latest advancements in the study of medicinal plants under climate stress, bringing together researchers from diverse disciplines such as biology, chemistry, environmental sciences, and pharmacology. It serves as a comprehensive resource for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers working to mitigate the impact of climate change on plant-based resources.
We welcome a variety of submissions, including conceptual and empirical articles, reviews, critical comments, and meta-analyses, addressing topics within the scope of this Special Issue. We encourage manuscripts from different fields that contribute to a better understanding of the biochemical impacts of climate change on medicinal plants and their potential therapeutic and toxicological consequences.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.
