Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Environmental Chemical Engineering is a subfield of engineering that solves environmental issues by using chemical, physical, and biological concepts. It focuses on creating and designing procedures that reduce pollution, lessen their negative effects on the environment, and support sustainable growth. This covers technology for solid waste management, air pollution prevention, water and wastewater treatment, and the generation of renewable energy. The multidisciplinary area of Sciences Applied to biology and environment examines how living things interact with their surroundings by integrating biology, ecology, chemistry, and environmental science. Understanding ecosystems, keeping an eye on pollution, preserving biodiversity, and addressing environmental problems through biological means are the main goals of this field. When combined, Environmental Chemical Engineering and Sciences Applied to Biology and Environment provide a potent tool for addressing difficult environmental problems. The biological and environmental sciences contribute knowledge about living systems and how they interact with contaminants, whereas environmental chemical engineering offers the technical and engineering solutions. For instance, scientists assist in selecting the best bacteria or microalgae to treat particular toxins in wastewater treatment, while engineers may design a reactor. Technologies developed using this multidisciplinary approach are more efficient, environmentally friendly, and sustainable.

This Special Issue “Environmental Chemical Engineering and Sciences Applied to biology and environment” aims to highlight the complementary roles of engineering and biological sciences in addressing environmental challenges. The focus is on collecting knowledge related to the design of eco-efficient processes for pollution control, sustainable resource management, and the integration of biological systems in environmental applications. In order to handle complicated environmental issues like wastewater treatment, air quality control, and climate resilience, it is becoming more and more important to combine chemical and biological methods. It focuses on the development and application of sustainable technologies for pollution control, resource recovery, and ecosystem protection.

This Special issue attracts a broad spectrum of academics, including ecologists, microbiologists, environmental biotechnologists, and chemical engineers, because it examines both the biological mechanisms involved in environmental remediation and the engineering design of treatment procedures. For scholars who are interested in environmental innovation, green technology, and the application of knowledge to actual environmental systems, this Special issue is very pertinent. In addition to disseminating current scientific findings, the goal is to stimulate cooperative research and workable solutions for sustainable development.
