Sustainable Metallurgy and Circular Economy in Materials Engineering

Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
“Sustainable Metallurgy and Circular Economy in Materials Engineering” is a blend of engineering principles and practices with sustainability science and industrial ecology that aims to transform how materials are extracted, processed, utilized, and recycled. With growing global concerns about climate change, resource depletion, and environmental impact, the materials engineering community must urgently focus on designing and implementing sustainable processes, green materials, and circular solutions.
This Special Issue will serve as a multidisciplinary platform for researchers, engineers, and practitioners to share recent advancements in sustainable metallurgy and material systems. The focus includes—but is not limited to—energy-efficient metallurgical processes, recovery and reuse of critical and rare materials, green steel and non-ferrous metal production, life cycle assessment, industrial waste valorisation, and the application of digital tools such as artificial intelligence and process simulation for sustainable materials development.
We especially encourage contributions that explore innovative concepts and technologies aligning metallurgy with the principles of the circular economy. The aim is to build a knowledge base that supports material efficiency, reduced environmental footprint, and sustainable industrial transformation.
We welcome a diversity of articles, such as conceptual and empirical studies, systematic reviews, critical commentaries, and meta-analyses, for submission to this Special Issue. Manuscripts from different disciplines and methodological approaches that contribute to the advancement of sustainable practices in metallurgy and materials engineering are highly encouraged.
We look forward to your valuable contributions.
